Roles and Responsiblities

  • Climate change Information and Education unit;
  • Focal Point for Article 6 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on Education, Training and Public Awareness;
  • Dissemination of Climate Change information through both print and electronic media;
  • Responsible for the planning of climate change communication programmes such as awareness raising campaigns, National/World Environmental Day commemorations in liaison with other departments, national exhibitions such as ZITF, Agricultural Show exhibitions, World Wetlands Day, National Fire Awareness Week;
  • Raises climate change awareness through engaging all stakeholders inclusive of schools, universities, environmental clubs, climate change/environmental committees and subcommittees, farmers and general public;
  • Produces climate change education and communication materials such as newsletters, books, pamphlets, leaflets, video, documentaries, television and radio programmes;
  • Focal point for SDGs and related matters
  • Coordinates the UN CC:Learn Project to develop a National Climate Change Learning Strategy
  • Develops climate change communication and outreach strategy;
  • Coordinates Project proposals writing and resources mobilisation for awareness activities;
  • Liaison with NGOs/Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on communication and advocacy;
  • Coordinates compilation of press/policy briefs and their dissemination;
  • Focal point for Information/Media, and other publicity offices of the Ministries and Parastatals;
  • Maintains a database for journalists and organise their capacity building workshops
